About
Me

Hi there! Noah here. I'm the guy behind the camera at 218 Visuals. If you're here on this page you probably don't know me very well - so you're in the right place! Here's a little bit about me and my life, hobbies, etc!

How it all began

Origins

I was born in Florida (“oh wow!”) but grew up in Minnesota in the Twin Cities area.  I eventually heard the northern pines calling – so I packed my bags and headed to the great University of Minnesota Duluth to try to figure what I wanted to be when I grow up.

It was during my years at UMD that I picked up my first camera (Canon Rebel T3i, what a great little camera that was!) and started making videos as a hobby.  Fast forward a few years, and here we are. I’m still trying to figure out what I wanna be when I grow up (I’m getting there).  In the meantime, I created 218 Visuals as a way to inspire myself – to create better videos, throw caution to the wind, and learn something new about business (and myself)!  It’s been an amazing journey, with some ups and downs (if you’re self employed, or own a business, you probably know what I’m talking about lol), but I am so blessed to LOVE what I do for a living.  It’s my goal to never take that for granted.

I’m now based in the Twin Cities and still making the same great videos, now with some better camera gear that younger me could only dream of (Sony a7siii and an a7iv, for starters). I’ve learned a lot over the years and happy to say that I’m still learning a ton about videography and how to be better at what I do.  Hey are you still readin’ this? At this point I’m just trying to fill the paragraphs up so it looks like a really long and thoughtful section on my website.

Music and Coffee

Dying to know more?  I’m a music person. My family is pretty much all musicians, and it’s always been a big part of my life. I play guitar and also recently started writing (I have a few songs up on spotify, with more on the way!)  I’m a better appreciator of music than I am a player or writer though.  I just discovered The War On Drugs so I’ve been jamming to them lately**. I’ve got a thing for alternative/indie/synth/retro stuff like that.   I just like well written music, regardless of genre.

I’m also a bit of a coffee person.  I used to be obsessed with Caribou’s iced crafted press (still am), but I ended up biting the bullet and getting a superautomatic espresso machine and so now I just make iced lattes at home.  The machine has definitely already paid for itself haha.

**2023 update – still love TWOD, currently on an early 2000s pop-punk phase (All American Rejects, Blink182, Switchfoot, etc)

Random Stuff

I’m not into a ton of movies and shows, but when I do find a movie I like I will watch it 100 times.  My favorite shows are The Office, and X-Files. For movies, probably Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matrix,  and anything Denzel Washington is in.  My family owned a grand total of probably 9 movies growing up so I really like those and haven’t branched out much I guess! Moving on.. I don’t know much about cars, or how things work in general.  If something stops working I just try hitting it with a hammer and sometimes that fixes it. I’d be screwed in an apocalyptic scenario. I play some video games too.  I would destroy you in most original Nintendo 64 games (Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Goldeneye), and you would destroy me in any other video game ever, probably.  I would also say I’m more of a cat person* (I saved this for the end in hopes that nobody actually reads it).

*I would make an exception for golden retrievers or other similar doggos.

Videography Style

My videography style is fairly simple and very personal – much like the 218 area of Northern Minnesota.  I believe sometimes the simplest videos are the most meaningful, when done with care.  That’s why I have a somewhat minimalist approach to gear and production – I like to let the moments speak for themselves. The greatest compliments I get are when people say that it felt like they were right there in that moment again.

I’d love to get to know YOU!  Reach out and tell me about yourself, and how we can work together.  If you’d like to know anything else about me, just ask!  Peace! 🙂
